Ingredients

Apple filling

  • 4 Medium Apples
  • 2 Tablespoons Brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon Salt
  • ¼ teaspoon Ground nutmeg
  • 2 teaspoons Corn starch

Crisp topping

  • cup Light or dark brown sugar
  • cup Oatmeal
  • cup All-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup Unsalted butter, cut into small cubes (2 ounces / ½ stick stick)
  • ½ teaspoon Ground cinnamon

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 375° F.

Crisp Topping

  • Combine brown sugar, flour, oatmeal, butter and ground cinnamon in a bowl. Using your hands or a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment combine ingredients until it resembles coarse pieces.

Apple filling

  • Wash and peel apples. Chop into small pieces approximately ⅓ of an inch.
  • Place apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, salt and nutmeg in a saucepan. Heat over medium-low heat until apples just begin to release their juices (approximately 3 - 4 minutes). Stir occasionally.
  • Remove the pan from heat and stir in the corn starch until evenly distributed. Allow apples to cool for several minutes.

Assemble and bake

  • Fill each dish with ¼ of the apples. Add a generous scoop of the crisp over the apples. Press lightly to seal.
  • Bake at 375° F for 15 - 18 minutes. Tops will be golden brown and apple filling will be bubbling. Cool for at least 15 minutes before serving.
