Ingredients

Gather the following ingredients to make the frosting:

ingredients needed to make cinnamon cream cheese frosting including powdered sugar, butter, cream cheese, ground cinnamon and milk
  • Cream cheese: use a full-fat cream cheese and bring to room temperature before starting the recipe.
  • Butter: use unsalted and softened butter
  • Powdered sugar: powdered sugar has a tendency to clump so I recommend sifting before starting the recipe.
  • Ground cinnamon
  • Milk: you may replace the milk with water.

See recipe card for quantities.

Storage

Since this frosting contains butter and cream cheese it is perishable. Store in an airtight container and place in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. To use, remove from refrigerator and allow to soften (approximately 1 hour). Place back in your mixing bowl and mix for a few minutes until the frosting is creamy and spreadable.

You may also freeze the cream cheese frosting with cinnamon for up to two months. Defrost by placing in the refrigerator for a few hours.

FAQ

Why should I use softened cream cheese and butter for this recipe?

Softened butter and cream cheese mix more easily with sugar and other ingredients. This prevents lumps and ensures a smooth, velvety texture in the frosting.
