Ingredients
These Nutella pinwheels use the following five ingredients:
- Puff pastry: store-bought is fine to use. Or, check out my Quick Puff Pastry recipe if you prefer to make your own.
- Hazelnut spread (Nutella): you may use any quality hazelnut and chocolate spread.
- Hazelnuts: chop the hazelnuts and toast lightly.
- Egg: lightly whipped, used for brushing on the outside of the pastry prior to baking.
- Raw or granulated sugar: sprinkled on the treat before baking for a little added crunch and sweetness.
Instructions
This recipe makes nine puff pastry pinwheels filled with Nutella and hazelnuts. Check out my short video on YouTube for a visual guide to assemble the pastries.
Start by rolling a sheet of puff pastry to a 12" x 12" square. Next, cut nine 3" x 3" squares from the pastry. Use a cutting wheel or pairing knife to cut diagonally from the corners of each pastry square to approximately 1 inch from the center.
Place 1 tablespoon Nutella (chocolate hazelnut spread) in the center of each pastry. Sprinkle hazelnuts over the Nutella. Next, fold every other point toward the center, slightly overlapping them in the middle. Press down lightly on the centers to ensure the pastry retains its shape while baking.
Finally, brush the tops of each pastry with the whipped egg. Sprinkle with raw or granulated sugar. Place on a a non-stick cookie sheet and bake for 16 - 18 minutes at 400 degrees F. Cool on a wire rack before serving. Dust with powdered sugar if desired.
Storage
These Nutella Puff Pastry Pinwheels are best served the day you make them. Place in an airtight container once the pastries are completely cooled.

Love the recipe and will try it this holiday season. Quick question - can you please suggest a substitute for eggs? Many of my folks are vegetarians and vegans, How can I make it for them?

Hi, you may lightly brush the pastries with a bit of water. Just an FYI, Nutella is not vegan as it contains dairy - perhaps replace the Nutella with peanut butter. Also, many commercial brands of puff pastry are vegan but some contain butter so just check which one you purchase.
