Ingredients

Gather all your ingredients to create these easy Valentine's Day brownies.

  • Boxed brownie mix - use ingredients listed on the back of your brownie box to prepare the batter. Most boxed brownie mixes typically require eggs, water, and vegetable oil.
  • Sprinkles - use Valentine's day colors such as pink, red and white
  • Chocolate or candy melts - use your choice of colors, like white, chocolate, pink, or any others, to make the tic-tac-toe decoration fun and festive

Instructions

Follow these step-by-step instructions, and you'll quickly have delicious Valentine's Day brownies ready to enjoy at your celebration:

1 - Lightly grease a 9"x13" pan with butter or baking spray. Line with parchment paper. Leave some parchment hanging over the edges of the pan to create "handles." These handles will make it easy to lift brownies out of the pan after baking.

2 - Prepare the brownie mix by following the instructions on the package. Once the batter is ready, you can mix in extra ingredients like nuts, candy, or anything else you'd like to add for more flavor and texture.

3 - Bake the brownies according to directions on the box. Let cool completely, then carefully lift them out of the pan using the parchment paper handles. Cut brownies into nine 2 ¼-inch squares, and use the leftover pieces to cut out heart shapes.

4 - Use melted chocolate or candy melts to pipe X’s, O’s, and heart shapes onto parchment paper. Make a few extras of each design to account for any that might break.

5 - While your piped designs are still wet, generously cover with red, white and pink sprinkles. Place in refrigerator for 15 minutes to set.

6 - Carefully lift designs off the parchment paper and attach them to the brownies by using a small amount of melted chocolate as glue. Press gently to secure them in place.

Variations

Add something special to these Valentine's brownies to suit your tastes. Consider the following when making your brownie batter:

  • Nuts - add a cup of toasted and chopped nuts (almonds, walnuts, etc...)
  • Valentine's M&Ms - for a little extra color, add a cup of red and pink M&Ms

Storage

Wrap brownies in plastic wrap or place it in an airtight container. Be careful not to crush the decorations. Store at room temperature in a cool, dry place for up to 5 days.

To freeze for up to two months by wrapping tightly in plastic wrap. Alternatively, store in a freezer-safe container. Defrost on your countertop for a few hours.

Top Tip

Don't forget to pipe a few extra X's, O's, and heart shapes with your melting chocolate. Since these decorations are fragile, having extras on hand will help replace any that might break.
