Ingredients

ingredients needed to make almond flour pie crust including almond flour, butter, sugar and an egg
  • Almond flour: I like the Trader Joe's brand as it is finely ground. There are many other almond flour brands available. These are often in the baking aisle of your grocery store.
  • Unsalted butter: melt the butter and cool slightly before starting the pie dough
  • Granulated sugar
  • Egg: bring the egg to room temperature before starting the almond pie crust

See recipe card for quantities.

Baking with the crust

Some pie filling recipes may call for a 'partially baked crust' or a 'fully baked crust.'

Partially baked crust

A partially baked crust is used when you are going to bake the pie filling. This ensures the crust is not doughy or soggy after the pie is fully baked. To partially bake this almond flour crust:

  • Preheat your oven to 350° F
  • Using a fork, poke 8 - 10 holes into the bottom of the pie crust and up the sides.
  • Bake the pie crust for 8 minutes. Cool completely before using.

Fully baked crust

A fully baked crust is used for recipes which have a no-bake pie filling. To fully bake this crust:

  • Preheat your oven to 350° F
  • Using a fork, poke 8 - 10 holes into the bottom of the pie crust and up the sides.
  • Bake the pie crust for 12 - 14 minutes or until the crust is a golden brown. Cool completely before using.

Storage

To store, wrap the dough well in plastic and place in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Alternatively, the dough or the baked pie crust may be stored in the freezer for up to 2 months.

FAQ

Can I make this pie crust vegan?

Yes. Replace the butter and egg with vegan replacements. I recommend Simply Eggless for the egg replacement and Miyoko's for the butter replacement.

Can I make this a keto pie crust?

Yes, simply eliminate the sugar called for in the recipe. This crust is tasty even without the sugar.

Probably the easiest pie crust I've made! I used it to make our pumpkin pie GF, add a bit of
    cinnamon and it worked nicely.

I never made almond flour pie crust before, and I was so pleasantly surprised! It is a game-changer. I'm not gluten free but I wanted to give this recipe a try. It holds its shape surprisingly well. Plus, the nutty flavor adds a nice new dimension to classic pies. Delicious!
